The Late Update on my Presentation

After my presentation, the weight on my chest lifted off. I thought that I wouldn’t be able to add the finishing touches to the animation and present something that’s poor quality or nonexistent. I had many other thoughts that caused my brain to overload and go into full drive panic mode. My friends (unfortunately) had to listen to me complain and say “I can’t do it” on repeat. Not only did I have to prepare for my finals and projects, I also had to prepare a blog post. Since my time management went down the drain, I forgot to do the 7th blog update on what happened during and after the blog presentation..! So, here is.

In the end, I did get to finish my project. I have quite an audience I kind of got really nervous. The day before I knew that I was going to stutter and lose direction, so I made an outline of the information that I knew I had to go over and other additional information I might be able to cover if I had the time. At the beginning of the presentation, I stuck strictly to the paper because I needed some training wheels to keep on track. After the mini slideshow I was able to take off on my own because I realized that presenting a project that I felt pretty proud of… I wanted to talk. I wanted to show people what I did. I wanted to answer questions. I wanted to inspire people. I wanted people to be curious and join me mid-presentation to see what I worked on this semester. Straying from the presentation “script” worked, I believe it made my presentation more flexible and authentic.

I thought my project was going to get back-lash because of my animation could of been better. I could of made multiple animations or add more detail to the art that I did, but just because my presentation is over that won’t hold me back from animating more on my free time. All my assumptions were wrong!! I’m pretty sure that all my friends were impressed with the hard work I put into it. The middle school was also pretty impressed because they too were working with the scratch program. They even asked me to help assist kids later on that week during their project with Hour of Code.

I said yes in a heartbeat because I love teaching people how to work a program that I know how to use. During my lunchtime the next day, I was able to help kids use the code-blocks to make their own game or animation(s) on scratch. The feeling of helping someone that wants to learn the program is a great feeling. It’s as if all those years of playing on scratch I can pass on my knowledge.

Now that I’ve returned back to school after the break, I’ve been looking on scratch for another animation project. On top of that, I’ve been contacted by another middle school class to help with their scratch lesson. Since it’s a new year, I have new goals. Even though I’m almost finished with the course, I’ll be continuing my animation hobby and improve every project.
