From Animation to Video Production

Today marks the day that the final computer application class ends. Even though the course is over, that doesn’t mean my passion for art and animation is over. My final animation got a lot of praise from the middle school that the CS Exploratory class requests that I come and give them a presentation of my project sometime during quarter 3. This feedback makes me really proud because it inspired both teachers and students to reach out to me. Rather than showing them the same presentation I did in December, I’ve decided to make an entirely new animation for the exploratory class. Other than continuing my animation passion, I’ve decided to reach out and find other ways to express my interest in art. For starters, I’m officially apart of the AIS Robotics team. I’ve decided to stay committed and help contribute to the new season of the First Robotics Competition by offering my time and determination to learn a different set of skills to build and make a robot. I’ve decided to take my art

The Late Update on my Presentation

After my presentation, the weight on my chest lifted off. I thought that I wouldn’t be able to add the finishing touches to the animation and present something that’s poor quality or nonexistent. I had many other thoughts that caused my brain to overload and go into full drive panic mode. My friends (unfortunately) had to listen to me complain and say “I can’t do it” on repeat. Not only did I have to prepare for my finals and projects, I also had to prepare a blog post. Since my time management went down the drain, I forgot to do the 7th blog update on what happened during and after the blog presentation..! So, here is. In the end, I did get to finish my project. I have quite an audience I kind of got really nervous. The day before I knew that I was going to stutter and lose direction, so I made an outline of the information that I knew I had to go over and other additional information I might be able to cover if I had the time. At the beginning of the presentation, I stuck strictly to

Freaky Friday

During this session, I was preparing for the 3rd Freaky Friday of the course. My partner (Jo-Jo) and I decided to discuss about A.I. (artificial intelligence). During my half of the time, I talked about the usage of DeepFake, “an AI -based technology used to produce or alter video content so that it presents something that didn't, in fact, occur” (Rouse). I had fun researching about this topic because I didn’t know that DeepFake was considered artificial intelligence. I thought the creator of the DeepFake videos had insane photo editing skills that allowed them to replace the face with other people, but I learned that the system is actually two competing generators. Generator (creates fake video) and Discriminator (determines whether or not video is fake or real) work together to perfect a video that’s AI generated, which makes it hard for people to determine which one is real and which one is fake. I wrote a script for Freaky Friday, expecting to talk and push the conversation a c

True Damage - GIANTS

For this session, I’ve been analyzing my favorite animated music videos. To get ideas and figure out the “secret formula” for a visually pleasing music video. Rather than typing up a blog that will discuss all my findings in the countless animated music videos I’ve watched, I’ve narrowed this discuss one music video that really amaze me. As seen in the title I’ve decided to write about True Damage - GIANTS. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVZpHFXcFJw First off with Riot’s new Hip-Hop song released on October 10, 2019: GIANTS. It contains a lot of fast and smooth transitions, color scheme, mixture of 3D and 2D animation, and the use of reference. The 2D characters seen the shots are mainly hand-drawn (2D) and the background and special effects are 3D. This mixture of 3D and 2D give the animation a lot of life and form. On top of the combination of 2D and 3D animation, the animators created very smooth transition from singer to singer. Another major detail about this project is how smo

Half-Way Through the Course

In this experience, I found that the most significant issue that arose was staying on task and getting work done. For this section I was only able to get through one character concept and a basic story outline for the song. The story outline itself feels like it’s too short and won’t fulfill the entire song duration, but in my personal opinion, I believe that’s okay because I’ll be able to start on another mini animation for this course. Writing this Mid-Term blog hit me with this realization that time is moving pretty quickly and I need to start kicking my gears. I know I’m wasting a lot of valuable animation time by procrastinating and coming up with new project ideas without actually getting started on one. Right now my mind is divided into many animation ideas I’d like to get started on, but it’s not focused on the task in front of me. I need to get back on track and focus on the current animation before starting another one. Hopefully during the next section I’ll be more prod

Setting up the Software

During this section, I was able to reactivate my Adobe Cloud provided by the school. I’ve decided to switch over to Adobe entirely to avoid conflict trying to mash two different products together. Krita will be a great animation software for me to use during my free time when I do not have access to the Adobe Cloud. On top of that, I have much more resources on youtube about Adobe products than the Krita software. During the short period of time I’ve used Krita, I’ve encountered this problem I did not know how to fix: The onion skin layer. I didn’t know how to turn on the onion skin layer to look at the previous frame(s). Onion skin layer is really important because it makes it easier for me to draw consistently in each frame. It was a simple solution, but I needed help actually turning on the onion skin mode because no one told me I had to switch on the light bulb. Onion skin: As you can see, I cannot see the frames B and C. I have to guess where A was last place and redraw the frame

Should I Animate a Music Video or a Cartoon?

Sasiton Wallace Computer Applications 11 Mr. Shappell Stuck Between Two Choices The time that has passed between the last blog post and now have been a big struggle for me. It’s difficult for me to stay committed to a project and find ideas that I can work with for a long time. My mind jumps around too much. I have a lot of good ideas that could be transformed into an amazing story for my animation, but I can only choose one. I want to make a mini cartoon but I struggle with creating stories that follows the traditional “plot line” (rising action, climax and falling action). I also want to make an animation that will tell a story with pictures and music. I’ve been thinking about compromising the two ideas together and settle with some sort of action packed animation with character conflict and some sort of important theme. Within the 2 weeks, I’ve been planning and plotting out possible animation ideas. It has been really hard for me to find a strong, stable animation I ca
